Field Service & Remote Diagnostics

The field service and remote diagnostics team provide critical customer support for maintaining the safety, compliance and operational reliability of explosion-protected electrical equipment used in hazardous areas within Australian and International coal mining operations. These services are essential to the ongoing function of equipment certified under the IECEx Scheme and AS/NZS 3800, particularly for high-risk and high-value operations such as Underground In Seam (UIS) and Surface In Seam (SIS) directional drilling.

Key Inclusions:

On-Site Technical Support for IECEx & AS/NZS 3800 Equipment

Deployment of qualified hazardous area technicians and electricians certified in Ex inspection and repair.

On-site support for inspection, testing, calibration, and minor repairs of explosion-protected instruments including:

  • Flameproof (Ex d) enclosures
  • Intrinsically safe (Ex i) sensors and transmitters as certified by their manufacturer
  • Certified cable glands and field junction boxes

In-situ diagnostics for performance issues or failure investigations.

UIS and SIS Drilling System Support

Technical support tailored to directional drilling instrumentation and telemetry systems including:

  • Measurement While Drilling (MWD) tools
  • Downhole motors and probes
  • Intrinsically safe surface interface panels

Inspection and testing of Ex-rated components on both surface (SIS) and underground (UIS) rigs.

Real-time troubleshooting of signal loss, power issues, and data acquisition faults.

Safe handling and testing of cables, connectors, and interface equipment to ensure continuity and intrinsic safety compliance.

Remote Diagnostics and Monitoring

Live remote access (where permitted and integrated) to surface interface equipment and control panels for:

  • System health checks
  • Data flow validation
  • Parameter tuning or firmware diagnostics

Support for early fault detection using telemetry and operational trend data.

Remote engineering assistance during active drilling operations to minimise downtime.

Emergency Call-Out and Breakdown Response

Rapid response capability for in-field breakdowns or Ex-compliance concerns.

Temporary mitigation or bypass solutions under safe conditions, with a pathway to compliant repairs via certified overhaul.

Liaison with mine control and electrical engineers to coordinate safe intervention in live systems

Preventive Maintenance and Compliance Inspections

Scheduled inspection and maintenance programs aligned with AS/NZS 3800 and site-specific Ex maintenance strategies.

Flame path inspection and verification, IP integrity checks, cable and gland tension tests.

Documentation of inspection outcomes using Ex inspection records and asset management systems.

Regulatory and Audit Support

Support during compliance inspections by state mining regulators or third-party auditors.

Validation of Ex installation records and tagging for UIS/SIS systems.

Assistance in preparing conformity documentation and Ex maintenance registers.

Reporting and Traceability

Detailed Field Service Reports including:

  • Observations and findings
  • Electrical test results
  • Photos of installations and faults
  • Remedial action taken or recommended

All actions traceable to technician IDs, service tags, and equipment serial numbers.

Training and Site Knowledge Transfer

Practical training for on-site maintenance teams on AS/NZS 3800-compliant practices for UIS and SIS assets. Guidance on routine checks, fault isolation, and maintaining Ex-integrity during field servicing.
